Trenton Tye, of Purgatory Iron Works

Does Trenton Tye look familiar to you?

That’s probably because he was recently featured on History Channel’s new Forged in Fire competition show, where competitors of varying degrees of experience go head to head in a televised bladesmithing challenge.

Trenton is no stranger to the camera, though — his youtube channel is a treasure trove of good blacksmithing information. His videos are clear and concise, and he speaks with the authority of someone who trains people for a living.

Trenton’s two-part video series on building a brake drum forge is also packed with good information. He actually has a disc brake rotor, which can be used effectively as well, that he uses for a firepot, but the jist is the same.

Anyways, here they are; enjoy!
